Album Review: PLEXXAGLASS - WHERE IS YOUR GOD, KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW?

WHERE IS YOUR GOD, KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW? is PLEXXAGLASS’ debut album.

WORDS BY JAZMIN LEMUS

On-the-rise nonbinary icon, PLEXXAGLASS, released their debut album, WHERE IS YOUR GOD, KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW? last October! In what they call a memoir, PLEXXAGLASS discusses the past 6 years of their life, as a person and as an artist.

The album starts off with “Lilith”, which was produced by Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda! With powerful vocals, it’s the type of song that you could imagine hearing in an intense scene in a film or TV drama. Following “Lilith” is “Tall”, which was one of the singles. “Tall” is a song that reiterates or seems to reiterate that no matter what situation a person can find themselves in, nothing can or should bring the person down. The person is determined to stay strong and continue to stand tall.

“Aloft” is the third track and it starts with the acoustic guitar. The song featuring Hours North and upon hearing it, you would think of this song as another type of tune that would be featured in an indie film. “Lament En Route” follows and for about the first two and a half minutes, it’s PLEXXAGLASS’ vocals accompanied by piano. The pattern noticed with this album is that it could be the soundtrack for a film and this song is additional proof of that (e.g. it could be placed in an intense moment in a film). With lyrics such as “I hate you…cuz I’m running. I’m running with my problems”, I urge music supervisors to please take notes. With the addition of drums and the trumpet, the intensity continues.

Track 5 is “DYD” and it’s a very loud song, vocally and instrumentally. It showcases the musicianship on the album. Following “DYD” is “Liar”. “Liar” is a slow song with piano being the dominant instrument. It also feels like it showcases PLEXXAGLASS’ vocals. “Time moves fast” is a line that could not be truer and it’s repeated several times during the song.

“Pinch Me” is a song that starts off slow and somewhat quietly. Almost halfway through, it crescendos when additional instruments kick in. The final track of WHERE IS YOUR GOD, KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW? is “Stayin’ Alive” by the legendary Bee Gees! Out of the bunch, it was the perfect song to end the album. At first I didn’t realize PLEXXAGLASS was covering the song, until a couple of lines in. It starts quiet and slow and it stays within that tempo throughout its duration. If you’re a fan of the Bee Gees, like what you have read so far, and like dark and haunting pop, maybe start listening to this cover before giving the rest of the album a listen.

Although WHERE IS YOUR GOD, KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW NOW? was released last year, it is never too late to listen to albums that have been out for weeks, month, years. I highly recommend you give this album a spin. You will not be disappointed.
