Music Q&A with Daisy Draper
Daisy Draper is a spiritual pop artist who recently released her single titled “Let Go”! In this Q&A, Daisy talks about her single, Stevie Nicks, healing, and more! “Let Go” is out NOW!
Congratulations on the release of “Let Go”! What does this song mean to you?
Thank you so much! “Let Go,” is a song about shadow work. I wanted to create pop music that was super fun and dancey without losing depth and lyrical substance. Shadow work is the act of reclaiming rejected aspects of self, integrating them back into your being, and showing up in the world as your most authentic self. It’s essentially the act of healing your wounded inner child in order to develop a healthy sense of self worth. “Let Go,” really captures the vulnerable moments in my personal healing journey.
You started your music career in late 2018. When was the moment that you decided “I’m going to make music”?
I think I’ve always known I wanted to make music! I started playing guitar when I was about eight years old, and took singing lessons at age six all the way throughout elementary to high school. In 2018, I joined my first pop duo band called, “Oceanlux.” This experience helped me develop the proper work ethic I needed to move forward with my solo project!
You served in the U.S. Army (thank you for your service) for 6 years. How do you feel that time period affected your music career?
I think time in the service inspired me yet also held me back in other ways. At the time I was stationed in South Bend, Indiana with the Indiana National Guard. I didn’t have the ability to move or really travel for shows, so my opportunities were somewhat limited. Now that I'm officially separated from the organization I’ve been able to move to Los Angeles and create a lot more opportunities for myself!
If you had a chance to interview any of your musical heroes, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I would love to interview Stevie Nicks! Stevie is a huge inspiration. Her voice was always interesting to me as a child and listening to her helped me develop the unique timbre of my voice. I’d love to ask her all kinds of questions, especially about her experience in Fleetwood Mac.
What is one artist or band that you haven’t seen in concert, that you hope to see someday?
I would love to see Aurora live one day! She is currently one of my favorite artists. She has such a beautiful voice and a unique expression for her art.
What is your favorite thing about making music?
My favorite thing about making music would have to be watching it come to life! There’s nothing more exciting than having a creative vision and watching it become reality.
How do you stay positive?
I, for one, am very much against toxic positivity and spiritual bypassing, but I do think it’s important to gently reframe our mindset and shower ourselves in compassion when negative emotions arise. Activities that help me stay positive include meditation, journaling, reading, eating a healthy all-organic diet, movement, and my community. I also follow the brand, “To Be Magnetic,” and their hypnotherapy meditations help a lot.
Any last words or final message for the readers?
Check out the concept of shadow work and Carl Jung’s philosophy on healing parts of the psyche. These modalities helped me radically heal my life. As a spiritual pop artist, I wanted to merge wellness with music to help my community learn to become their own healers. I’m excited to bring this song into the world to encourage others to embark on a journey of growth and self actualization!
