Music Q&A with Zak Pinchin of Modern Error
Rock band, Modern Error, recently announced that they’ll be releasing their debut album, Victim Of A Modern Age, this upcoming January via Rude Records! Leading up to its release, the band has been putting out singles, including their latest, “The Truest Blue”. In this Q&A, Modern Error’s Zak Pinchin, took some time to answer questions about the album, making music with Kel (his twin), and more! Victim Of A Modern Age is available to pre-save HERE.
You guys recently announced that you’re releasing your debut album, Victim of A Modern Age, via Rude Records in January 2022. Congratulations on the achievement! What does the album mean to you?
Thank you so much. It’s been a long time coming, especially with the way the world has been for a while, it’s incredible to finally get to this after all of those hurdles and delays. I think the album for us as a whole shows a true becoming of what Modern Error is destined to be, and over the course of writing it, it was made more and more apparent that the concept of the record reflected how we felt as artists and musicians. The album to us is our self revolution.
How do you feel the last year and a half affected the creative process and making of the album?
I think the whole pandemic has really made everyone much more aware of themselves and their abilities as people. For us it was learning to trust ourselves in self producing this record the way we wanted it, and with so much new available time it gave us the opportunity to make sure the record was correct.
What’s your favorite song off Victim of A Modern Age?
”The Truest Blue”, I think it encapsulates the moment Modern Error evolved and removes itself from a level of ‘post hardcore’ generics, which really matched where our mindset was at. To us, the record is a body of work and should be listened from start to finish with no interruptions. This record really evolves through the time sonically and emotionally, and you can really hear that shift around the point where The Truest Blue is.
What was the first song you ever covered?
We actually haven’t covered a song as Modern Error before. We would love to do our take on something sometime.
Musicians don’t always get to play and make music with their siblings because a lot of times, their siblings don’t play music. Have you guys always played music together?
Being twins, we fell into the same love of things at the same time - and to share those new and fresh experiences with another person who was so ‘close minded’ really had a positive effect. When we fell in love with listening to music, that’s when we started dreaming of creating it, we didn’t even ask each other we just knew it would be together. And it has been that way ever since, we have only ever been in bands together.
What is your favorite city to play in?
We have had so many great shows all over its difficult to pick a favourite. When I reflect it’s all about the moment in time rather than the city. If I had to choose, London has always held a great importance to us, it’s where you for fill most of a bands landmark shows, and feels like a place to make a statement.
What is your favorite thing about making music?
I think first and foremost for me its liberation of expression. I’m not great with talking to people, saying how I feel or putting my voice out there unless its through something I can make - It seems like a much more comfortable but also important way to do it. I love the idea that my view of the world can be put out there and others relate or form their own view from something I have made - there isn’t really anything better.
How do you stay positive?
It’s all in belief and mindset, finding beauty and lessons in tragedy and push forward towards a bigger picture.
Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Our debut album ‘Victim Of A Modern Age’ is out January 21st 2022. We welcome you to consume it with introspection. Thank you.
