Orange County’s very own Bite Me Bambi recently did a cover of “Our Lips Are Sealed” by The Go-Gos and it rules! Bite Me Bambi brings sounds reminiscent of British 2 Tone and 3rd wave ska into the 21st century. Made up of members of ska bands such as My Superhero, Save Ferris, and Starpool, the band is getting ready to headline the 1st Annual Summer Sizzler THIS Friday, August 13th at The Garden Amp in Garden Grove, California!

Keyboardist, Mike Berault, took some time to answer some questions about The Go-Gos’s cover, his favorite Bite Me Bambi music video, his favorite thing about making music, and more! Tickets to the 1st Annual Summer Sizzler are on sale NOW!

The band recently did a cover of The Go-Go’s “Our Lips Are Sealed”. It turned out awesome and so did the music video! How did the band end up picking the locations of where the video was shot?
We needed a place that was close to the water and had access to smooth concrete for the Roller Skaters. I used to live in the building behind where we shot and a friend who still lives there recommended we use Alamitos Beach, so we did. It was perfect for the needs of the video.

Whether it’s been with Bite Me Bambi or with another project, what has been your favorite band or bands to go on tour with?
Bambi hasn't toured a lot (thanks Covid), however, we have played with the Slackers, Reel Big Fish, Toasters to name a few and they were all super cool to play with. We were slated to do a tour of the country in summer 2020 with the Aquabats and Reel Big Fish, however that was cancelled.

What is your favorite Bite Me Bambi music video?
I like them all...but my favorite as far as story line is "This Love Is Dead". It’s super funny and I get to be the villain.

In your opinion, what artist/band are you a fan of that doesn’t get enough attention?
There are a bunch of bands that are rad that should be way bigger. There are a couple that come to mind, but I would have to say Left Alone. They're awesome and have a video here and there during covid, and a great new record, but they have so many good recordings, I would like to see them blow up. Honorable mentions go to Omnigone; Buster Shuffle in the UK.

If you had a chance to collaborate with a musician, dead or alive, who would it be?
Dead or alive? Big list of dead ones. Obvious one would be Joe Strummer for me. Living, Terry Hall from The Specials; Lee Scratch Perry.

What is your favorite thing about making music?
I love getting to put out a piece of usable art. People can put on a record or listen to a recording and be transported to a special memory they have for that song or that time. It's like owning a time machine for life memories.

This last year has been hard for bands and music fans because tours didn’t take place. What’s one thing you've missed about touring?
I miss the camaraderie that is shared with other touring bands, the friendships and the fans. The fans end up becoming good friends and it is hard to not see them for an extended period of time.

What helps you stay positive?
When I am down, I think of all the people that are playing a guitar in a bedroom wishing they could get a band together. Then I think how lucky I am to get to make music with friends and have rad experiences with them. My message to the kids (or adults) is: Keep playing and keep getting out and meeting others...one thing I know for sure is that you will attract your tribe of like minded individuals...Friends are the family you choose.
