Music Q&A with Jack Adamant
Alternative rock solo artist, Jack Adamant, released an album in September titled Obscure Places & Cupboards! In this Q&A, Jack talked about the album, his favorite artists, and more!
Congratulations on the release of Obscure Places & Cupboards! What does the album mean to you?
Thank you for taking your time to check out the record. So many feelings involved in this one. From making this album I increased the awareness that I always need to try new things, no only about writing, even with recording and mixing, never do stuff in the exact same way. This album also reminds me that hiding from serious decisions is just a temporary solution in life.
What is your favorite song off Obscure Places & Cupboards?
“A Plan To Stay” is definitely a personal favorite of mine. It has a unique way of speaking to me, it makes me feel uncomfortable, disturbs me in a sense but cleverly shines in my eyes like no-one else does. I have to say this song was not meant to be released for personal reasons. I guess it is too late now!
Who has been your favorite artist or band to see live?
I might be talking about this for literally hours so allow me to go a bit off topic here. I strongly believe a fav artist or band varies according to ones state of mind. Coming from the 90’s when it was hard to discover new music if not unrelentingly getting hold of cd’s or through MTV. Nowadays I find myself exploiting all these music platforms and social media to catch up on all that music I’ve missed during the old gold years. I love grunge and punk music a lot. Anything that sounds remotely grunge, punk rock or alt rock gets all my attention. My main music inspiration comes from bands like Dinosaur Jr, Guided By Voices, The Get Up Kids and Sebadoh. Recently I’m digging whatever comes from The Campbell Apartment and Coastal Fire Dept. fantastic people ad very inspiring bands to me. If you’re interested I made a playlist with all the artists that have influenced my music-career from day one till Obscure Places & Cupboards; it is called “Unkind Places Since ’82” and includes both the pioneers, bands that every one shall hear at least once in their life as well as some new discoveries like High/Low, Gnawing, Church Girls, The Right Here, Goalkeeper, Harker and more. https://sptfy.com/Mh75
What instrument do you not play that you hope to learn someday?
I always wanted to master piano, I can do chords and some basic stuff on a piano but nothing too complicated. When I lose the sparkle, the artsy inspiration; best way for me is to actually experiment with a new instrument. A few songs from my last record started on a ukulele. I never tried banjo so this might be a thing in the future.
We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
That’s a tough one. There are certain things that work during these times like writing down snippets of potential songs, plus recording and mixing help me to disconnect myself from whatever is bothering me at the time. Additionally, playing stripped-down versions of my songs pretending to be in front of a massive crowd, that’s self-soothing to.
Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
If you’re curious about my music get your teeth into my last work, Obscure Places & Cupboards, I’m sure you’ll find a song that you like, some riff that makes you happy, even a melody able to smoothen the rough edges of a bad day.
