Music Q&A with Scott Downes of Bliss Fields
Last month, Toronto shoegaze outfit, Bliss Fields, released their new album titled Slowly, Forever! In this Q&A, guitarist and primary songwriter, Scott Downes, took some time to answer some questions about the album, his earliest musical memory, and more! Slowly, Forever is out now via Acrobat Unstable!
Congratulations on the release of Slowly, Forever! What does this album mean to you?
Thank you, thank you, thank you, you're far too kind! 3 long years of writing and perfecting songs. I usually just whip up some shit and go with it, but I really wanted this one to be good. Meg contributed 2 songs for the record, Satisfy, and Stare that i thought fit beautifully into the mix. We worked on those to finish off everything and voila! Everything came together beautifully but it was a long hard road to get it done!
How did the pandemic affect the making and the creative process of the album?
We actually recorded this in 2018 so the pandemic didn't affect anything other than the vinyl release, need more plants!
What is your earliest musical memory?
I remember hearing Where the Streets Have No Name by U2 when I was like 4 years old and it blew me away. That was the first time I felt an emotional response to a song. It was amazing.
What is your favorite album of all time?
That's always subjective to change. Right now I love Donda by Kanye, but last year I would have told you I-Empire by Angels & Airwaves was my fav album of all time, if I spun it again I would probably say that record. Can't stop listening to Donda though!
What is one artist or band that you haven’t seen in concert, that you hope to see someday?
I'm seeing Justin Bieber in March and I'm so excited! I would love to see Porter Robinson though, that would be incredible!
We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
My partner, Saxon keeps my head on my shoulders. Maybe that's a little dependent... it's hard to have a bad day with them in my life though! I love you Sax!
If I'm alone, a joint and a good video game with a great story helps. I also love talking to my mom on the phone, she's great at keeping me level.
Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Love what you love with no shame! Be yourself and love yourself! Thanks for talking!!!
