Music Q&A with Jordan Macdonald of Texas King
Canadian alternative rock band, Texas King, released their new EP, Changes, late last year! In this Q&A, vocalist and guitarist, Jordan Macdonald, talked about the EP, his favorite thing about making music, and more!
Congratulations on the release of Changes! What does the EP mean to you?
Thank you much! This has been a very meaningful release for me, and I think lots of folks can relate! 2020/21 was a big time of change for everyone around the world! I wanted everyone to know that they weren’t alone. I think even though covid was a big drag, it was also a good time for people to get around to those things they’ve been meaning to do.
What’s your favorite song off Changes?
“Frontlines” is my fav. I think it’s my attempt at normalizing asking for help. No shame in it!
If you had a chance to collaborate with a musician, dead or alive, who would it be?
Jimi Hendrix would be sweet do a blues rock record with Jimi matching outfits, grow my hair back... if you picture it, you know… it’d be NICE.
What instrument do you not play that you hope to learn someday?
Cello! Would be dope!!
What is your favorite thing about making music?
The “I think this is going to be a good one” moment. When the song switches from just a rough idea into something we all know we may be playing for years to come. I also love when things come together without any words being spoken that’s very cool! Happens a bunch in our band. MEL, PHIL, AND COLIN are amazing players to write and record with cause they’re all so DAMN TIGHT.
We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days?
I take the dogs out for a long walk. Take a drive. Get into some water for a dip always helps. A mindless comedy movie does the trick too!
How do you stay positive?
I have a saying, “Could be worse”, that always helps my mindset.
Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Thanks for having such great questions! See you all as soon as we can! Can’t wait to play this record live way more!
