20-year-old South African songwriter and musician, Will Linley recently released his debut single “miss me (when you're gone)” and although he has only released one song, he has gained a following! In this Q&A, Will talked about how the song came about (and how TikTok had to do with it), who he’d like to see in concert that he hasn’t seen, and more!

Will’s next single, “Wrong Time” will be released on March 23rd, and you can pre-save it HERE. Additionally, if you’re in the L.A. area and are free TONIGHT, March 15th, Will is playing a show at The Hotel Cafe. For information and tickets, you can check it out HERE.

Congratulations on the release of “miss me (when you're gone)”! How did the song come about? When did you start working on it? Thank you so much! I started writing the song in October of 2020, the song really went through a huge journey before it was ultimately released. But I had the verses down and took the idea into a session with my producer David Balshaw, we sat with the song for a little bit and wrote the chorus together. Once I began teasing it on TikTok and it started gaining momentum, we finished the song and got it out as soon as we could!

You grew up singing with your brothers and mom. What would you say is your earliest musical memory?
I fondly remember putting on mini concerts for my dad when he’d come home from a long day of work. It was such fun!

What is your favorite album of all time?
This is so hard, you can’t do this to me! Frank Oceans “Blonde” Album is really one of my favourites if I have to pick.

What is one artist or band that you haven’t seen in concert, that you hope to see someday?
Again, so hard cause there are so many! But definitely Sam Fender or Jon Bellion.

What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?
Surround yourself with people you trust, make music with people you love, and always get a lawyer to read over anything that comes across your desk!

We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
Sometimes it’s hard to stay positive and that’s okay. But when I’m feeling like life is really giving me a hard time I’ll often times try to get down to the beach or go spend time with my friends or family. Those two are the most important things in my life and keep me grounded during the bad days.

Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
