Music Q&A with Sarah & The Sundays
Austin-based indie rock band, Sarah & the Sundays, have been keeping busy releasing music and playing shows. The band is about to start a headlining tour and are a part of this year’s Austin City Limits! In this Q&A, the band talked about their latest and upcoming deluxe album, The Living End, what they missed about being on tour, how they stay positive, and more!
Last fall, the band released The Living End and now you’re releasing a deluxe edition of the album later this spring. What led to the decision of releasing the deluxe edition?
The deluxe album idea originated with a song called “High Tide”, which we wrote just a few weeks after solidifying the tracklist for the album. We then recorded the “Losing My Religion” cover, as well as one additional song, and decided to release a deluxe version of The Living End including all of these tracks that didn’t make the cut for the original release.
What’s your favorite song off The Living End?
Collectively we’d have to say “Vices” is our favorite at the moment.
What instrument do you not play that you hope to learn someday?
I (Liam) plan to learn saxophone once we get back from tour! I played sax in the fourth grade, so I think I’ll be able to pick it back up no problem.
What would you say is the song that is hardest to play live?
There are a few different answers depending on which member you ask, but I think collectively “You Might Not See Me Again” is the most difficult to really lock into and play at a consistent tempo and groove.
With Covid putting a stop to touring, what was the thing you missed the most about being out on the road?
The transfer of energy between ourselves and the crowd is such a beautiful feeling and is probably the thing we missed most during the lockdown.
We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
Besides actual therapy, playing music is the best therapy for us. Even on bad days, playing music together, writing a song, or just listening to our favorite tunes will always lift our spirits.
Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Spread love, stay positive, listen to good music :)
