Earlier this month, Brooklyn-based artist, Evan Bieber aka Fading Out released his debut EP titled Reckless! In this Q&A, Evan talked about the EP, his favorite albums, and more! If you’re into Third Eye Blind, blink-182, The Starting Line, and/or Phoebe Bridgers, this is right up your alley!

Congratulations on the release of Reckless! What does the EP mean to you?
Thank you sooo much!!! I’m so happy it’s out! This EP means so much to me. It has always been my dream to release music and at some point I thought that maybe I would have to let that dream go. During the pandemic, I realized life is too short and I should just go for it. The songs on this EP were the first songs that I ever wrote, so they mean a lot to me. I was super nostalgic during this time period so I wanted the sound to reflect the music that I grew up with. One of the main purposes for Reckless was to heal a part of my inner child, and I definitely think I did that.

What’s your favorite song off Reckless?
My favorite song off Reckless is “Falling Apart.” It’s the first song that I ever wrote, and truthfully the only reason I continued to write more songs. “Falling Apart” is definitely my most personal song and the one I was the most nervous to release. I wrote it after a week of partying too hard and celebrating Halloween in 2019. The song is about not understanding your limit, as well as the aftermath and questioning your choices. “Falling Apart” was written from start to finish in one sitting. It felt like a really special moment that I’ve never experienced before. It’s still rare to find a moment like that, so this song will always be my favorite.

What is your favorite album of all time?
Ahh!!! What a TOUGH question! Can I say more than one?? Sorry, I’m going to say more than one. I can tell you my favorite albums for different time periods of my life. My favorite two albums (a tie) that represents my youth and adolescence are Avril Lavigne - Let Go and Something Corporate - Leaving Through The Window. Both of these albums made me the person that I am today and I still listen to them often. Two of my favorite albums of my adulthood are Bon Iver - 22, A Million and Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher. One additional album: I think a forever timeless album that I could listen to every day without getting tired of is Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

What is one artist or band that you haven’t seen in concert, that you hope to see someday?
I think it would be so cool to see The Cure live. I watch their live performances on YouTube all the time and they still put on a killer show. Their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performance from 2019 was insane!

We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
We definitely do have our days, and sometimes it can be tough to push through it. Personally, when I’m feeling like I’m in a rut, I try to switch up my routine a bit or treat myself to something. Sometimes I’ll just take a different commute home and stop by a new coffee shop. Sometimes I’ll just go to a random record store and buy myself a record. Those are some of the things that bring me joy and help me stay positive.

Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
I just want to thank you so much to anyone who gives Reckless a listen. It means a lot to me and feels really special. You just might get to hear some new music soon!
