Preview: Thrice at House of Blues Anaheim

If you’re a fan of Thrice, by now you know two new things about the band: they released a new album and they have been on tour since September. Direct support for the tour are labelmates, Touche Amore. Opening the tour was Self Defense Family, who unfortunately had to drop out of the tour a few days ago due to a COVID case in their camp. Wishing a speedy recovery to those affected!

With two bands left on the bill, can we expect longer sets for the couple of dates remaining on the tour? That would be awesome! Will it happen? Who knows! But what I do know is that if history has been any indication, it’s that there will be a well blended setlist of old and new Thrice songs. I am not one to look up setlist.fm to get a peak at what the setlist will be, especially with a band like Thrice. I am confident that they will deliver. With that said, the band is wrapping up their tour in their hometown of Orange County with a SOLD OUT show THIS Saturday, October 30th. If you’re from the area and you’ve seen them there, you know it’s going to be the best time! A personal side note for me about this band at this venue is that when this House of Blues opened in 2017, Thrice was the first show I saw there!

Some songs that we can expect to hear on this tour are newer songs such as “Scavengers”, “Robot Soft Exorcism”, and “Summer Set Fire To The Rain” off their new album, Horizons/East. Even with a new album out, fans will want to hear songs from their other albums. Some songs that we MAY hear that we’ve heard in the last couple of tours are “Only Us” off Palms (2018), “Hurricane” off To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere (2016). and “In Exile” off Beggars (2009). We can expect to hear them play songs off The Alchemy Index (2007/2008), but the question is which ones? Honestly, I’ll be happy with any of them because the beauty of The Alchemy Index is the diversity and quality of the songwriting. For Thrice fans that have been there from the beginning, we will definitely get those harder songs. Which ones can we expect to hear off The Artist In The Ambulance (2003)? While songs that they play off the album change every time they play anything off it, the crowd does not slow down. There is also no doubt that someone is going to request “Deadbolt” off The Illusion of Safety (2002) and the great thing about this is that the band knows it and plays along with the joke.

If you’re in Southern California and you’re trying to catch the band, but missed out on getting tickets to their sold out gig in Anaheim, tickets are still available for their L.A. show TOMORROW NIGHT at The Hollywood Palladium. You can purchase them HERE.
