Back in July, it was announced that Slightly Stoopid would be one of the main acts at On The Water Festival on October 12th and October 13th in Huntington Beach. They were set to perform an electric set and an acoustic set. Unfortunately, the promoter who organized the festival could no longer put the event on. After some time went by, Slightly Stoopid announced that they would bring the party to FivePoint Amphitheatre in Irvine on Saturday, October 12th. Joining the party would be The Interrupters, J Boog, and Hirie.

Hirie kicked things off with an energetic set full of positivity and it seemed like a handful of attendees were no strangers to her music. She sang fan favorites such as “Wiseman” and “Sensei Boy”. Fans even got to witness Slightly Stoopid’s Kyle join Hirie for “I Like The Way You Roll”. Fans went crazy. Her set was a great way to kick off the show. With Hirie’s set coming to an end, the crowd was pumped up and ready for Long Beach/Compton native, J Boog.

With his band and vocalists backing him up, J Boog had positive energy to spread. With fan favorites such as “Let’s Do It Again” and “Sunshine Girl”, the crowd couldn’t help, but sing and bop their heads. The crowd continued to get more hyped up throughout the night. As J Boog’s set came to a close, ska fans in attendance were about to be treated to a posi Interrupters performance.

For anyone who has seen The Interrupters, it was no surprise that they kicked off their set with “A Friend Like Me” followed by “By My Side”. With the success the band has attained in the past year, fans were singing along to every song. They played newer songs such as “Title Holder” and “Gave You Everything”, which is when a circle pit commenced. They snuck in their rendition of “Bad Guy” by Billie Eilish, a cover they’ve been playing on tour. Of course, they couldn’t end their set without playing older songs such as “Family”. The Interrupters ended their set with the hit that changed the game for them, “She’s Kerosene”. No better way for a band to end a set as the crowd was ready for Slightly Stoopid.

I’ll say it right away; Slightly Stoopid fans are dedicated and lucky, as the band played for two hours. Not only did they play fan favorites such as “2am”, “Stay The Same (Prayer For You)”, and “Fire Below”, but they had special guests join them on stage. Fans of the genre were treated to special moments from legends, which included Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na when he joined the band for “Higher Now” and “Just Thinking”. Marlon Asher also made an appearance when he joined the band during “Love of Jah” and “Ganja Farmer”. Since Slightly Stoopid’s Kyle joined Hirie earlier during the show, she returned the favor and sang with the band during “Mona June”. Other artists that joined the band were The Expanders and Don Carlos.

To anyone who was in attendance, who planned on going to On The Water Festival, may agree with me that Slightly Stoopid did their part to make it up to the fans. There were positive vibes delivered by all the bands. Maybe Slightly Stoopid should bring the party to Irvine every year?
