Suntitle is an alternative emo outfit consisting of members across New Jersey, Pennsylvania
and Massachusetts. On November 12th, the band will release their debut album, In A Dream, via Know Hope Records! Suntitle’s very own Peter Bariexca recently spent some time talking about the album, his favorite band to see live, and more! In A Dream is available for pre-order NOW!

Congratulations on the release of In A Dream! What does the album mean to you?
Thank you! What does this record mean to me? Us? Well, a lot has changed since we put out Pure Forever. Like many other people, our lives were shook when Covid hit and we were sort of forced to reflect on ourselves. We had to question whether or not this was really what we all wanted and I think In A Dream tackles that sense of uncertainty with a new found confidence. The opening track “Impermanence” sort of leads you into that thought process perfectly, with “Church Bells” closing that thought with “let’s give them a show”. This album, is entirely what WE want and I don’t think there’s a more gratifying feeling.

How do you feel the last year and a half affected the band’s creative process and the making of the album?
It made us stronger. It was fight or flight during that period of isolation. Our lives were stripped of our form of self expression, so during recording we had all of our creative focus in one place.

What’s your favorite song off In A Dream?
My personal favorites are a combination of  “Mile Marker” into “Heavens Gate”. I’ve always been a fan of using tonality to influence emotions. I feel like those two capture the slip into darkness and resurgence into the light better than any other song on the record.

“Make me believe, this was all for something”

When was the first time you fell in love with music?
“Fell in love” is a funny way to put it haha. Honestly, for me, I think that music is a need, more than a want, so pinpointing that exact moment is difficult. I have to do this.

Who has been your favorite band to see live?
Turnstile, every time. For years they’ve been blowing me away. I started going to their shows around when Nonstop Feeling dropped. When that record came out, I knew emotional hardcore was changing. Evolving. That record directly influenced how I approached everything I do.

If you had a chance to interview any of your musical heroes, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I wouldn’t. It’s not that I don’t have any influences or favorites, I just think that idolizing artists muddies the water a bit. Your headspace is better occupied by your own perception.

What is your favorite thing about making music?
It’s limitless! Staying true to your core style and layering that with influence from genres across the spectrum is so cool! Emo/hardcore/pop punk has spent a lot of time in the same place, I think that 2020 shook a lot of that up and now people are waking up to the possibilities.

How do you stay positive?
By realizing that humans are inherently flawed and it’s ok to have ups and downs. No one stays at the top forever.

Any last words or final message for the readers?
Don’t stop fighting for something you truly believe in/want. I’m serious. Whether it be that dream job, your freelance art page, completing your personal goals, etc. You’re going to encounter every type of obstacle in your life time. Some expected, some unexpected. It’s going to be difficult no matter what you choose as your focus. People are going to try and tell you how to live left and right. Don’t listen to them. Listen to you.
