Music Q&A with Faun Flora
Faun Flora is an alternative pop artist who just released her new single titled “See You At The Funeral” and it’s a song that will make you feel things! I instantly recognized how great of a song it is and I highly recommend you give it a listen. Faun Flora recently spent some time answering questions about the new song, her favorite band to see live, who she would collaborate with if she could, and more! “See You At The Funeral” is out NOW!
Congratulations on the release of “See You At The Funeral”! I am not sure if that sounds weird considering the theme of the song. Lyrically and musically, I loved it as soon as I heard it. What does this song mean to you?
Thank you so much! The song means a variety of things to me and I hold it very close to my heart. It’s a marker of a shift in my life and mentality that formed last year when I wrote it. As we were all going through an existential crisis last year thanks to covid, this was my call to savor the love you have for those close to you and to value the short time you get with them here on earth. There are some people in this world that I love so much that it is bittersweet that we don't get to live together forever. It lays out my thoughts about the concept of funeral rites of passage and transcendence of love.
You’ve released singles since you started putting music out in 2014. What song has been your favorite?
Every time I put out a new single, I think it’s my favorite. But I have to be honest and say that it is a tie between “See You At The Funeral” and “Traveler” from my EP. “See You At The Funeral” is one I’m very proud of because it’s a big step in the direction I want to go for style, whereas “Traveler” is my favorite to perform live.
When did you realize you wanted to create music?
It’s hard to remember because it feels like I have always wanted to ever since I started learning how to play music. I wrote my first songs in elementary school with a couple of friends (which no one will ever hear ever), and from then on it became a natural inclination for me to process my thoughts and memories.
If you were an instrument, what would you be and why?
A harp. I am often told that I am soft spoken, so it makes sense in my head.
Who has been your favorite band to see live?
Foster the People. I have seen them 5 or 6 times, and they are always incredible. From the performance to the crowd connection to the stage design . I will go every time they play here in Phoenix.
What is your favorite TV/movie soundtrack?
I’m between the soundtracks for Inception or Interstellar. Both wowed me when I heard them in theaters. Interstellar is my favorite movie however, because of both the soundtrack and its story.
If you had a chance to collaborate with a musician, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I would pick Chris Martin from Coldplay. The man has been my songwriting idol since I really got into music, and he’s written a lot of lyrics that I resonate with so much.
What is your favorite thing about making music?
It brings me to the present moment. I often struggle dwelling in the past or the future, and creating lets me be real with myself and unwind the feelings that I bottle up.
How do you stay positive?
I tell myself that whatever I am struggling with is not forever and will pass soon. I’m either going to learn how to be better or how to deal with it better.
