Music Q&A with Advocaat
Advocaat is an indie punk duo from southeastern Pennsylvania, consisting of members Kyle Patrick Caffrey and Danny NoNo. Last year, they released an EP titled Dark Patterns via Big Eleanor Records! In this Q&A, the duo talked about the EP, their favorite band to see live, and more!
Congratulations on releasing Dark Patterns! What does the EP mean to you?
Kyle: Above all else, this EP to me represents a musical maturation for both of us.
NoNo: Thank you for the enthusiasm. This is just another step in the takeover.
What’s your favorite song off the EP?
Kyle: Impossible to really say. In some ways I think SDP is the best song on the album. Lyrically at least. That song has probably gotten the best reaction.
NoNo: It's a fucking Ghost.
When did you realize you wanted to create music?
Kyle: I’ve always loved music, as do most people. But I think it was the summer between 7th and 8th grade, which was the summer that I discovered MCR’s video for “I’m Not Okay” and The Darkness’ video for “I Believe In A Thing Called Love” on the same night on MTV. I’ve been trying to make my own music since then.
NoNo: The universe has always been mentally and emotionally preparing me.
Who has been your favorite artist or band to see live?
Kyle: I saw The Cure in 2008. It was a makeup date from when they canceled on short notice the year before. They played 8 encores that were all 3 or so songs long. It was incredible. But overall the best live band in the world is The Darkness. I’ve seen them a lot and it’s a borderline religious experience every time.
NoNo: Screaming Females, the most consistent band of the past ten years.
What instrument do you not play that you hope to learn someday?
Kyle: I recently got a synth as a Christmas gift from my lovely wife. I can tinker and play it a bit but I would love to see myself play it more properly in a year or 2.
NoNo: I need to learn how to play the bank account.
We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
Kyle: As far as staying positive I really don’t. There’s not a lot of things out there to be positive about. I think this album shows that. But you just have to have a reason to get up in the morning, and for me the reason is my family (my wife and my cat), and making music.
NoNo: The same way I treat my best days, keeping my head down focused. Physically, about three bowlpacks and that new Rome Streetz and Ransom tape usually helps too.
Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Kyle: Get vaxxed and boosted please and thank you.
NoNo: Brush your teeth.
