Music Q&A with Erik Happ of False Pockets
Today, indie rock band, False Pockets, has a new song out titled “Quarter Life Crisis Diapers” and it’s off their upcoming album, Selfish Prophecies, which will be out February 18th! Ahead of the single being released, singer and guitarist, Erik Happ, took some time to talk about the new song, his favorite artist to see live, and more!
Congratulations on the release of “Quarter Life Crisis Diapers”! The song will be the first track off the upcoming full length record, Selfish Prophecies. What does the song mean to you? What does the album mean to you?
Thank you! I (Erik) said "Quarter Life Crisis Diapers" in rehearsal one time while talking life with our drummer Ben Chesnes. A lot of our songs names end up being a spur of the moment deal. The album Selfish Prophecies is pretty much a sum up of all of the songs and what I was thinking at the time. A play on words of "self fulfilling prophecies".
How did you guys decide “Quarter Life Crisis Diapers” would be the first single?
We kinda knew when we wrote it. We just feel strongly about it. Most accessible.
How old were you when you started playing music? Is the instrument you play in False Pockets, the only instrument you play?
I (Erik) have been playing guitar for 15 years, singing for 11. I also play bass in a band called Pomelo. Our drummer Ben has been playing for at least 10 years. Drums and guitar (and he’s quite nice at guitar). Our Bassist Zack Parker has also at least 10 years under his belt. Plays bass and drums. He also mixed our record!
Who has been your favorite artist or band to see live?
George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic at Party in the Park here in Rochester. Or Weatherbox + Enemies at the Bugjar in like 2016.
If you had a chance to collaborate with a musician, dead or alive, who would it be?
I feel like Ian Williams from Don Cab and I would make something interesting.
We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
On days where playing music isn't an option, I exercise, smoke weed, and listen to d'angelo.
Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Thanks for having us. We just hope y’all are being kind to one another.
