Last month, alternative artist, Mothé released their highly anticipated debut album, I Don’t Want You To Worry Anymore, via Slowlab Records! In this Q&A, Mothé talked about the album, what they missed about being out on tour, what they would change about the music industry if they could, and more! I Don’t Want You To Worry Anymore is available to order HERE.

Congratulations on the release of I Don’t Want You To Worry Anymore! What does the album mean to you?
The album has been interesting because I've been doing music for quite a while but this was the first time I've ever been in a project that released an album. I really love that it's given me the room to make music for a larger amount of time, I write different songs when I have 40 minutes than I do when I have 20, so I think it's a massive marker of identity for me. It's been wild watching how it makes people view you as a more serious artist, so I've been really just enjoying the transition and look forward to doing it again.

What’s your favorite song off the album?
I think my favorite song off of it is “Debt Collector”, but I'm pretty biased. That song changed a lot for me so I'm always going to have a special attachment to it. It was the first time I felt visible.

With Covid putting a stop to touring, what was the thing you missed the most about being out on the road?
I just missed being that busy. There's an amount of focus you get to put into each day and you live within a lot of really tight restrictions. I think I was feeling a little too free when I was living back in LA, I'm really looking forward to only being able to do one thing at a time while I tour.

If you could change one thing in the music industry, what would it be?
Probably the whole thing itself. I wish most of us were having more fun, I think the most toxic thing is just the mindset. I hear a lot of people tell me they want to play stadiums or make a lot of money and then they edit themselves creatively into what they believe fits that dream. It's a bit obnoxious and seems to make more watered down work. The audience of music are way smarter than most people give them credit for and in a lawless era I think you should do whatever your heart really pulls you to do, success is incredibly weird these days.

What is one artist or band that you haven’t seen in concert, that you hope to see someday?
I've always missed Arcade Fire in one way or another, I've also missed every yeule show near me, so those are two artists I would really like to get to see soon.

We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
I get to do what I love every day and am surrounded by really amazing friends. I lean on my friends a lot more than I think they realize, we rarely talk about music and that tends to help. When I feel sad, I just walk or skate around my neighborhood. But truthfully I'm rarely positive, I'm always a little grumpy but that seems to be entertaining to myself and the people around me so don't fix what's not broken I guess.

Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Just make sure you're having fun everyone!
