Katie Belle may be best known for being a contestant on season 17 of American Idol. Since her time on the show, she has been releasing new music. In this Q&A, Katie Belle talks about how she ended up on the show, what instrument she would like to learn how to play, the advice given to her by Lionel Richie, and more!

How did you end up auditioning for American Idol?
The opportunity came to me and I felt like taking the chance! I never really felt the urge to go on a singing show, but it was all such perfect timing when the chance to be on idol came around, I think it was meant to be and I'm so glad I did it.

What’s your favorite song you have released so far?
Out Tonight” for sure. One of the first songs I took the lead on writing and it's such an autobiography of my life from when I was 17 and 18. Such a magical and free time in my life, “Out Tonight” still gives me this overwhelming feeling and chills when I hear it, that’s probably why it's still my favorite.

What instrument do you not play that you hope to learn someday?
I honestly have always wanted to learn how to play the violin/fiddle. It has such a dramatic sound, and you can play it in so many ways, I would love to learn. But i should probably work on guitar first haha!

What's the best piece of advice another musician ever gave you?
Lionel Richie told me when I was getting eliminated from American Idol “God can only do for you, what you allow him to do through you.” Those words have rung in my head and meant so much to me since I heard them and I don't think I'll ever forget them.

We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
Somedays are harder than others. I struggle with anxiety and recovering from depression so somedays I literally feel like it’s impossible to feel better. I’ll usually take the day if I can just sit in those feelings and let myself feel them and talk to God. On the days that i can get over it, i try to be outside (hopefully it's sunny) go on a walk, do something kind for someone else or spend time with people i love. It also helps to stay off my phone, when I'm living in the moment it's a lot easier to see the beauty in it (there's a lot).

Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Thank you so much for having me! And thank you to everyone who’s reading and listening. My new single “Now That I Know” is out now on all streaming platforms and I have lots of music coming soon. Mwuah
