Music Q&A with Jacob Szabo of Oakrest

This Friday, Ontario pop punkers, Oakrest, are releasing their debut album, Summer Sun! Ahead of the release, Oakrest’s vocalist, Jacob Szabo, took some time to answer questions about the album, who he would like to see in concert someday, and more!

Congratulations on the release of your debut album, Summer Sun! What’s your favorite song off the album and what does it mean to you?
Thank you so much! Feels good to have the record finally out! My favourite track off this record personally, will always be “Olivia”. I felt that this song is definitely the catchiest song that I've written, and I am very proud of it as a whole (with the music video, the artwork, the recording etc.).

What’s something you hope fans get out of the record?
We hope that when our fans listen to this record, it reminds them of summer. First half of the record are all songs that can be blasted at top volume while driving around, partying, enjoying the "Summer Sun", and the second half of the record can be more for those chill summer nights.

When did you realize you wanted to create music?
Music has always been in my family, but I didn't realize that I wanted to pursue a career in it until the first time I stepped on stage at the age of 10-12. I joined a band at the local music shop at a young age, performing covers, writing originals, and performing in local restaurants. And from there, it was just the beginning.

What is one artist or band that you haven’t seen in concert, that you hope to see someday?
This is a harder question than I thought it would be, as I've seen many bands! However, for artists/bands that I hope to see in the future one day include: The All American Rejects, Grayscale, No Pressure, Green Day.

We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
Funny you ask, as I'm writing this, I'm currently going through one of those days! Main things I like to include are getting tons of fresh air, water, fruit and good vibes! Things that also help are as simple as seeing my girlfriend, walking my dog, and getting food.
