Earlier this year, alternative/pop-punk band, Bad Planning, signed to Jump Start Records! In this Q&A, the band’s very own Jack Coombs talks about the band’s upcoming album, who he would collaborate with if he could, and more!

Congratulations on your upcoming album, Et Fortes, set to be released in Spring 2022 via Jump Start Records! What does this album mean to you?
Thank you for having us! For one, this album means the pay off of a lot of hard work. We are super excited to be working with Jumpstart Records. Jumpstart has put out records with some of our favorite bands, so working with them has been incredible.

The songs are a combination of old ideas and new ideas that we think mesh super well. You can hear all of our musical influences on this record. From bands we listened to as teenagers like MXPX, Alkaline Trio, and Lifetime, to Snapcase and Such Gold who we listen to today.

Things have been different for people in the last year and a half due to Covid. How did this time period affect the making and creative process of the album?
The band went through a lot of change in the past year and a half. We added some new members who were once old members, and our lead singer Alex became a father (twice!).

Covid of course made it that much harder to get together. Once we knew exactly what we wanted the songs to sound like, we decided to finish the record in a sprint. We recorded all drums in a day, and then all guitars and vocals in 2 days. Even with that short time period, the album came out just the way we wanted.

When did you realize you wanted to create music?
From hearing bands like Green Day and Blink-182 as kids, and how accessible the songs were to play, inspired us to try it out ourselves.

What is your favorite album of all time?
Jersey’s Best Dancers by Lifetime. We listen to it constantly.

If you had a chance to collaborate with a musician, dead or alive, who would it be?
To name just two out of the many we’d love to work with, Jacob Bannon from Converge and Dan Andriano from The Falcon/Alkaline Trio.

What is your favorite thing about making music?
Being able to work on something with your friends that you mutually love. There are few feelings that are better.

We all have our days where it may not be going as well as we’d like. People deal with their worst days in different ways. What helps you get through the bad days? How do you stay positive?
Having hope for the future is big for us. Though things might not be working out that day, we know that we have great family and friends supporting us, and we will get through it :).

Listening to music that we love also helps A LOT.

Thank you for taking the time for this Q&A. Any last words or final message for the readers?
Shoutout to Jumpstart Records, Earshot Media, and everyone who supports our band. Can’t wait to share this new music with everyone. Come out to a show! We’d love to see you.
