Sunday, July 21st was filled with noise and mosh pits. Silent Planet and Silverstein are currently out on the road supporting August Burns Red and the celebration of 10 years for their album, Constellations.

Kicking off the night, was Silent Planet. The Los Angeles natives were no strangers to a good portion of the crowd. Although, they only had a 30 minute set, they delivered a stellar performance. They had the audience’s attention, especially with songs like “Panic Room” and “Afterdusk” both discussing real life experiences such as mental health.

With Silent Planet winning the crowd over, Los Angeles was ready for Silverstein. The Canadian quintet is an all-time favorite of mine and as their career has progressed, I can only imagine how hard it is for them to choose a setlist. The band started their set with one of their new songs, “Retrograde”, but as the night went on, Silverstein didn’t hesitate to play older songs such as “Smashed Into Pieces” and “Smile In Your Sleep”. The band also played slightly newer songs that were fan favorites such as “Ghost” and “Massachusetts”. With the crowd warmed up, there was no slowing down.

As soon as the band took the stage, not one person stood still. August Burns Red was ready to party with their fans and celebrate 10 years of Constellations. As soon as the first note of “Thirty and Seven” dropped, that was it. Everyone who has been a fan of ABR and a fan of this record, was singing along. As the band kept playing fan favorites off the album such as “Ocean of Apathy” and “Marianas Trench”, you could feel the positive energy in the room. Before I forget, I have to mention that the production ABR has on this tour is ridiculously great. With Constellations reaching its conclusion, they knew they couldn’t stop there.

When the band returned for an encore, they returned with a drum solo and went to finish the night with “Ghosts”, “Invisible Enemy”, and lastly, “Composure”.

One of the struggles that I’ve observed that bands deal with these days is being able to stay relevant, being able to continue to write music that people will connect with, and being able to survive. August Burns Red celebrated an album that still means a lot to fans that have been there from the beginning or perhaps, just became fans not too long ago. They got to celebrate 10 years of an album that has left a mark in the Metalcore and Christian Metal scene. How often to we get to celebrate that?
